Funerals

The loss of a loved one is a very difficult time and where invited we provide pastoral care. We try to support the bereaved by enabling their mourning and honouring the death of their loved one.

A church funeral adds a spiritual dimension. Anyone in the parish is entitled to a Church of England funeral and normally we work with funeral directors on arrangements for this.

In these very difficult times it’s not possible to hold the funeral service that loved ones deserve. To help you the Church of England has produced a short reflection for use at home at the time of the funeral. Please feel to use this resource at the time of the funeral either yourself if you cannot attend or to encourage those you know would have liked to be at the funeral of your loved one. You may also like to consider having a Memorial Service in church once we are able to meet in church once again. Please understand that this may still be subject to certain distancing regulations.

For more information or to take things further, as well as talking through your wishes with your funeral directors, do contact the Church Office or have a conversation with our Vicar Paul. Contact details are here.

Please note:

  • St. Mary’s churchyard is closed for new burials.
  • Care of the churchyard is the responsibility of the local authority and they carry out any maintenance required. If you have any concerns regarding the churchyard, please contact Cheshire West & Chester Council.
