All Hallows Eve Service – Light in the Darkness
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1v5
A huge thank you to everyone who helped to decorate and illuminate the church for our united service with all sorts of different lights, lamps, candles and “Jesus” pumpkins on All Saints or All Hallows Eve, or “Halloween” as most of us know it. It’s amazing how light can change the mood and atmosphere in a building, and the church looked amazing as we thought about Jesus’ words, “I am the Light of the World”; that Jesus is a light with us to comfort and guide us even in the darkest of places of life, and how he illuminates our hearts with his love and light. We then considered Jesus’ challenge to us, when he said, “You are the light of the world”; that He calls us to be beacons of light and love, shining for Him in our families, communities and workplaces.
In our prayers, we peeled away pieces of black paper from a light box as we resolved to put aside an area of darkness in our lives, and we lit candles, giving thanks for those “saints” who have gone before, those who have set us an example in life and faith.
And while the weather prevented the planned bonfire in the vicarage garden from taking place, YPF made the most of a dry evening to enjoy that a week later.
