John Freeman appointed as Lay Canon

John Freeman is one of ten new Lay Canons who have been appointed at Chester Cathedral, Instituted by the Bishop and Installed into their seats by the Dean on Sunday 28th July.

Each Canon will now occupy, for as long as they hold their title, one of the Cathedral’s fourteenth century misericords in the Quire dedicated to saints who are commemorated in the Cathedral’s stained glass. John Freeman, is to be Lay Canon in the seat dedicated to Dunstan.

John is St Mary’s Treasurer, ECC member and Deanery Synods representative. He has been on the Diocesan and General Synods and has been Director of the Chester Diocesan Board of Finance since 1992. He is well known in Weaverham  as a Parish Councillor and Acting Clerk; he is also Chairman of the Weaverham Community Association, which runs the community centre.
